Indianapolis police announced Monday the phased rollout of body camera for 1,100 officers on its force, beginning with the department's busiest East District. The move comes after years of pilot studies and officer-involved shootings.

The Noblesville Police Dept. has explored acquiring body cameras for its officers for quite a while. After allowing officers to try out a number of technologies, the department purchased 95 BodyWorn cameras.

St. Louis Public Safety Director Jimmie Edwards said Monday that he believes body and dashboard cameras will help to “close the trust gap” between the police and the public.
